Vietnam actively participates in responding to climate change

Climate change and its issues and consequences have always been concerning by Vietnam for many years. In order to protect humanity's common living environment together with the world, Vietnam has joined international agreements on responding to climate change such as the Vienna Convention on the protection of the ozone layer; United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; Kyoto Protocol; Paris Climate Accords; Resolutions of COP, Resolutions of IPU, ASEAN...

Domestically, Vietnam has issued many laws and policies to respond to climate change. For example, the Law on Environmental Protection; Law on Water Resources; Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control; Forest Protection and Development Law; Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy;  Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environmen; Law on Hydrometeorology; Law on Irrigation; Law on Dykes...; National Target Program to Respond to Climate Change; National Action Plan for the Implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda...

Vietnam has always focused on investing funds in response to climate change and natural disaster prevention; build livelihood models adapting climate change, saving resources, using renewable energy; upgrade the work of warning and forecasting natural disasters; construction of works and projects to invest on upgrading sea dykes, river dykes, anti-flooding and saline intrusion...; make financial contributions to the Green Climate Fund, actively participate in international activities on climate change.

Regularly organize propaganda to raise people's awareness in daily life and production to ensure environmental factors and combat climate change. Organize the annual "Earth Hour" campaign to encourage people to "Save energy, protect the earth". Propaganda to promote the exploitation and use of new and renewable energy such as wind power and solar power; the development and use of green, environmentally friendly technologies; the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions...

As an active, proactive and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam will continue to promote solutions to respond to climate change. Vietnam has set a target by 2030 to reduce the total greenhouse gas emissions by 9% compared with the development-as-usual scenario. Implement the initiative of planting at least 1 billion more trees in 5 years with the slogan "For green Vietnam" to greenen bare land, bare hills, prevent natural disasters, floods, erosion and landslides soil, absorbing large amounts of greenhouse gases. Gradually increase the proportion of renewable energy, gradually reduce the proportion of fossil energy in the national energy structure. Increase the area of ​​marine and coastal conservation zones to reach 3-5% of ​​the national sea area. By 2030, basically achieve the sustainable development goals on natural resources, environment and response to climate change.
